A Polonesa (Polish) – Rio, Brazil (7.5/10)
Oct 21st, 2006 by admin
A Polonesa is a traditional, old-fashioned Polish restaurant in Copacabana, Rio, just minutes away from the beach. Popular with the husband and his Brazilian friends who are all regulars, it’s one of the better restaurants in the area, offering good value for money, a very laid-back atmosphere and friendly service by Polish-Brazilians. I’ve eaten here several times and enjoyed it immensely.
The portions are so enormous that we only order a few dishes to share if we go in a small group. We like the baked sea bass in horseradish sauce, served with tasty sautéed potatoes and flat leaf parsley. Grated fresh beetroot salad with horseradish is a delicious accompaniment. While the main courses are being prepared, the waiters also bring plenty of Russian coleslaw with green olives and rye bread.
People also recommend the hot chocolate mousse, which has to be prepared in advance. I’ve yet to try this, as I’ve always been too full for pudding, but perhaps on my next trip!
