La Frasca (Italian) – Frascati, Italy (8.5/10)

Sep 8th, 2006 by admin

What a shame that we only discovered this little gem on our last day in Frascati, after not having been terribly adventurous during our week-long stay. We would have eaten here every day, had we come across it earlier!

La Frasca is located right in the heart of the town, up a little slope, so choose the outdoor tables overlooking the town, rather than the actual restaurant, which seemed to be somewhat dark and cramped. I remember the traditional red and white checked tablecloths, and it was lovely and breezy sitting where we were.

The menu was only in Italian, unlike the other restaurants we had been to, and the waiter also only spoke Italian, but as the husband’s Italian is reasonably good, he managed to order some sensational food – carpaccio of swordfish with pistachio nuts, fresh orange juice and olive oil to share, followed by angel’s hair pasta with porcini mushrooms and penne with a tomato and cream sauce.

They only took cash, which caught us out, as we only had a few Euros left on our last day in Italy. This meant we had to be really careful with our ordering. But I highly recommend this little restaurant if you love superb Italian food in a rustic setting!

If you’re in Frascati, Nemi is only a short drive away, where we found another wonderful restaurant, Trattoria Terrazza sul Lago.

10 – Perfection, 9.5 – Sensational, 9 – Outstanding, 8.5 – Superb,
8 – Excellent, 7.5 – Very Good, 7 - Good, 6.5 - Above Average, 6 – Average
