L’Osteria del Generale (Italian) - São Paulo, Brazil - (7.5/10)
Oct 17th, 2006 by admin
A Brazilian-Italian friend living in São Paulo took us to her local, L’Osteria del Generale, a down-to-earth Italian restaurant in the trendy Jardins district. Colourful football shirts hung from every inch of the ceiling, giving it a relaxed and laid-back look. The waiters were friendly and jolly, while the atmosphere at both lunch and dinner was buzzing but not raucous, so that we were able to have a proper conversation.
Although warned by our friend about the substantial portions, I was unconvinced and chose my own meal of veal, in addition to the pasta and salad that she had ordered to share between the three of us. As a result, I was completely overwhelmed by the gigantic platters of food. The three of us together were unable to finish ONE salad and ONE pasta (ricotta-filled ravioli), and of course my veal had to be taken home to be eaten the next day.
This certainly wasn’t dainty, fashionable restaurant fare, but if you’re looking for hearty, reasonably priced and authentic Italian food in São Paulo, then this is where you’ll find it. Remember to leave some space for dessert though, as I very much regret having missed out on that both times we ate here!
