Peppersack (Medieval) – Tallinn, Estonia (6.5/10)

Dec 25th, 2006 by admin

Located across the street from Olde Hansa, Peppersack is Tallinn’s other medieval restaurant, also recommended by all the guidebooks. The atmosphere was disappointing however, possibly because it was Christmas Day. With far fewer diners than at Olde Hansa, it was quiet and subdued, although we were given a good table on a wooden balcony overlooking the main dining room.

My main course, Master Hansu’s feast (grilled pork fillet with bacon, oven-baked potatoes and mushroom sauce) was actually slightly tastier and cheaper than the two meals I had at Olde Hansa, but the beer wasn’t as good and neither the starters nor puddings were outstanding enough for me to recall them.

After dinner, there was a bizarre theatrical display of sword-fighting in the dining room and up the stairs. From what I could work out, two men were arguing over a woman, which culminated in a fight and much shouting. Apparently, this is regular entertainment at Peppersack.

The verdict?

I recommend Olde Hansa over Peppersack for a more authentic ‘medieval’ experience, friendlier staff and buzzing atmosphere. It’s not always just about the food…And for a truly unforgettable world-class meal, book a booth at Gloria.

10 – Perfection, 9.5 – Sensational, 9 – Outstanding, 8.5 – Superb,
8 – Excellent, 7.5 – Very Good, 7 - Good, 6.5 - Above Average, 6 – Average
