Restaurante Valdonas – Guimaraes, Portugal (7.5/10)
Aug 17th, 2006 by admin
Restaurante Valdonas came recommended by my father-in-law, who travels regularly on business to Guimaraes, a beautiful medieval town and UNESCO World Heritage site in north-western Portugal. Located in a 17th century building, the restaurant is simple but contemporary. It was quiet at lunch, so we chose to sit outside in the cool, covered courtyard. While waiting for our food to arrive, we filled up on plenty of fresh bread and olives. There were many seafood options, including grilled dorada, sole and cod, but delicious-sounding meat options were just as tempting (steak, grilled veal cutlet, grilled bull’s back, pork stomach, rabbit, wild boar and partridge). I can’t remember exactly what I had, except that it was an extremely fresh and delicate white fish.
I would definitely recommend a trip to Guimaraes, combined with a visit to Valdonas.
10 – Perfection, 9.5 – Sensational, 9 – Outstanding, 8.5 – Superb,
