The Old Bridge Hotel is a 24-room hotel and restaurant in the traditional market town of Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire. According to its website, it is one of only 30 hotels in the UK to have been awarded the English Tourist Board’s Gold Award. I had lunch here – my father-in-law’s 60th birthday party – and it was delightful, particularly as the restaurant had to cater for over forty of us, as well as their usual Sunday lunch guests. The service was impeccable, with the food and drink arriving seamlessly.
I chose a starter of fresh English asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, a main of roast halibut on a bed of new potatoes and sorrel, followed by moreish sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream. The asparagus was perfect – just the right level of crunchiness – and the fish was extremely fresh. The pudding was slightly too sweet and could have done with an extra portion of ice-cream, but it still got eaten up. Starters fall within the £6-7.00 range, while mains range from £11.50 to £24.00.
I don’t think I would have eaten here based solely on the hotel’s website and online reviews, as hotel restaurants can be very hit-and-miss in this country. However, based on my lunch here, I would definitely return. Do book lunch or dinner if you’re travelling to this area of England. They also serve traditional afternoon tea, with fresh scones and thick unpasteurised Jersey cream.

Hi there – fascinating to see you made it here. It’s a regular destination when I’m visiting my parents in Cambridge. They recently smartened what was once a bank beautifully. The wine list, devised by an almost altruistic Master of Wine is magnificent.
I’ve just noticed the date you posted this. For some reason, it was on the front page when I saw it (goodness knows why?).
Douglas – that must have been one of the two From The Archive Posts that pop up on the front page. They are set to change every 5 minutes. Can’t wait to go back if I get a chance, perhaps for afternoon tea in the spring. Thanks for the wine tip!

I was particularly dense – the idea of showing some past posts is great. I’d do the same if my blog didn’t run on clockwork! Anyway, your blog is smashing, even from 2-3 years ago!
It’s just a WP plug-in that works quite well. You can choose how regularly you want the archived posts to show, and how many as well. Useful little thing! Thank you for the compliment! It’s nothing compared to your fantastic blog!
Oh, you make me blush, so I’ve put a link to you! Enjoyed your Hereford Road post – sorry they seemed to avoid looking after you.
