Lago di Nemi (Lake Nemi) is situated in the Alban Hills, about 25 km southeast of Rome, and a short, picturesque drive from Frascati. After a walk around the small town of Nemi, which is set high above the spectacularly clear lake, we accidentally came across this romantic little Italian restaurant, Trattoria Terrazza sul Lago. We sat at the back on the outdoor terrace where there were about five small tables, with a stunning view overlooking the lake.
The service was good and the prices more than reasonable. Local Italians dined next to us, which to me is always a good sign. In fact, there were no tourists apart from us. The food was simple but delicious – fettucine with lemon cream and smoked provolone sauce, and another pasta with fresh hare sauce – just what we needed after the drive.
How to find it:
Park the car, walk around Nemi a couple of times, and I’m sure you’ll come across it! I told a colleague about it, and she managed to find it on her honeymoon…
And if you’re in Nemi, then of course you must visit Frascati for other great restaurants, including La Frasca, which we loved.

Hi Stephen
Thanks for your comments! It’s always great to welcome a new reader too! I like your Flickr photos by the way. I’ve just grouped my favourite food photos into a set, like your ‘My Winners’. Love that cute beagle!
