Vegetariano Social Clube (vegan) – Rio, Brazil (7/10)

Oct 22nd, 2006 by admin

Vegetariano Social Clube in Rio’s upmarket Leblon district was recommended by Brazilian friends who know the owners (friends can take turns being guest chef here). This isn’t just a vegetarian restaurant, which is already quite unusual in Rio, it’s both vegan and organic. It’s a little pricey by local standards, but you’ll feel extremely virtuous eating the super healthy dishes here, especially after pigging out at Porcão!

We sat outside at one of the small tables for lunch (it’s a bit too cosy inside) but I’ve also eaten the food at our friends’ home when they ordered dinner for home delivery. In fact, they order their food from this restaurant practically every day, it’s so healthy!

Tofu feijoada (whole rice, black beans with half-smoked tofu and tempeh, crispy manioc flour and “mineira” thin sliced kale) is particularly good. You can also have organic beer, wine and amazing freshly squeezed juices. Have a look at the English menu on the website for more dishes to tempt you to Rio…

Try my other favourites in Rio…

  • Churrascaria Porcão
  • A Polonesa

    Hi Michel

Thank you for letting me know about the change of phone number. I’ve changed it now. I hope to visit Rio again soon. We were just talking about it the other day!
