World Foodie Guide’s First Birthday!

World Foodie Guide is one year old today. It also recently moved to www.worldfoodieguide.com. Although it was great being with wordpress.com during my first year, I decided it was finally time to move on. Over the next few months, there’ll be more tweaks and improvements, so please let me know if you come across anything that doesn’t work or could be better.

Blogging is about sharing advice and exchanging information as much as it is about writing posts and taking photos. I’ve met some wonderful foodies over the past year, and have learnt so much from them. I’ve even been passed three awards by fellow bloggers! My Blogroll represents just a tiny number of blogs that I regularly read and leave comments on, and I also try to be as active as I can on Flickr, where all my photos are stored, on Chowhound‘s UK/Ireland board and on Twitter. I look forward to making more friends in year two!

All the photos up to mid-July were taken with my Sony Ericsson K800i mobile phone camera, but I’ve now upgraded to the Sony Cybershot W300, which is an amazing point-and-shoot. Some of the old photos have been published on San Pellegrino, Whatsonwhen and Fodors, and since I’ve been using the new camera, I’ve had photos published on Square Meal. Sometimes I think I enjoy taking photos of food more than writing about it!

Finally, a big achievement – I’ve gained more confidence in the kitchen. Vegetarian husband and chef of the house has taught me a lot, while I’ve attended a couple of really inspirational cookery workshops. My plan is to cook more at home and eat out slightly less in London, so that I can traveleat more around the world. In no particular order – Japan, where I’ve been several times but before I started blogging, Argentina, Cuba, Mexico, Vietnam and India. Returning to Italy would be lovely, and I’d like to squeeze in foodie trips to Spain, Scotland and Ireland…I can’t wait. For now though, I have next month’s trip to Hong Kong, Macau and Beijing to look forward to!

Lisa & Tess – thank you! WFG feels a lot older than just one year. I’m exhausted, but it’s been worth it. Onto year two!
